EG1615

Chip Description The EG1615 chip is a control chip specifically designed for bidirectional inverters (the same circuit can function as an inverter and a battery charger). It performs DC-to-DC inversion, boosting, and battery charge management. It integrates two 600V half-bridge high-voltage MOS drivers with an output current capability of +/-2A. A built-in four-channel independent PWM shutdown protection effectively prevents damage to MOS transistors from excessively high peak currents under extreme conditions. Two SD pins are provided: SD1 and SD2. SD1 is the cycle-by-cycle shutdown pin for driver 1 HO1 and LO1, and SD2 is the cycle-by-cycle shutdown pin for driver 2 HO2 and LO2. In combination with an external comparator and the SD function, overcurrent or short-circuit protection can be implemented. The EG1615's main functions consist of two parts: the first is inversion and boosting control, primarily converting the low-voltage DC battery voltage into a high-voltage DC voltage to supply the high voltage required for subsequent DC/AC inversion; the second is charger step-down control, primarily converting the high-voltage DC voltage (after PFC boosting from the mains) into a low-voltage DC voltage for constant voltage and constant current battery charging. The EG1615 uses an LC resonant dual active bridge (DAB) topology to achieve bidirectional energy control. Matching the PWM operating frequency and LC resonant parameters enables soft switching control of the switching tubes, making it suitable for high switching frequency and high-efficiency applications. When the EG1615 operates as an inverter and booster, the duty cycle of the low-voltage side H-bridge is 50%, and the high-voltage side H-bridge uses the internal body diodes of the MOS transistors for rectification and output. Voltage feedback uses a shallow closed-loop voltage regulation mode (i.e., maximum voltage limit at no load, open loop under load), effectively preventing excessively high voltage at no load that could damage the device. The resonant parameters are adjusted by external LC components. The chip supports a PWM operating frequency of 40kHz-150kHz. A current transformer inserted on the high-voltage side can be used for output short-circuit protection. When the EG1615 operates as a charging step-down converter, the duty cycle of the high-voltage side H-bridge is 50%, and the low-voltage side H-bridge uses the internal diodes of the MOS transistors for rectification and output, along with automatic synchronous rectification of the MOS transistors. Constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) charging require cooperation with the PFC voltage regulation function in the EG8026. A current transformer inserted on the high-voltage side can be used for output short-circuit protection.
